Meet Facial & Oral Surgeon Dr. Lohr
Dr. Gregory Lohr was raised in Lee’s Summit, where his interest in oral surgery began by working as a dental assistant in his father, Gary’s, general dental office during high school and college. Growing up he actively enjoyed woodworking and metalworking, and he hoped to translate these interests into a career combining artistic manual dexterity and working with people. After working with his father and shadowing local oral surgeons, he found his passion in surgical procedures.
After graduating as valedictorian from Lee’s Summit High School, Dr. Lohr went to University of Missouri – Columbia to obtain his B.S. in Biology. During his time at Mizzou, he raced on the university’s cycling team while maintaining academic standing on the Dean’s List. After graduating at Mizzou, he went to the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry. While in dental school, he participated in the oral surgery honors program, was on the class executive committee and participated in numerous surgical externships around the country to find the program that would offer the best surgical training. After graduating in the top of his class and earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree, Dr. Lohr was accepted to train at Parkland Memorial Hospital, globally considered one of the premier training sites for oral & maxillofacial surgery.
During his residency, Dr. Lohr acquired his medical degree (MD) from the prestigious University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center. He served as the medical school’s cadaveric teaching assistant for over 250 medical students. He completed a year of General Surgery Internship, including training in pediatric surgery, trauma surgery and critical care. Dr. Lohr spent 8 months of training dedicated solely to anesthesia, including hospital-based general anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia and office-based sedation. In his free time, he was an active member on the executive committee of the national resident organization, ROAAOMS.
He served as the chief resident at Parkland Memorial Hospital, University of Texas – Southwestern Medical Center, Children’s Dallas, Dallas VA Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital, John Peter Smith Hospital, Cook Children’s, and Zale Lipshy Hospital. Covering 5 level I & II trauma hospitals and tertiary care centers, he received extensive training in head & neck trauma and reconstruction, orthognathic surgery, dental implantology, and pathology.
Today, Dr. Lohr’s surgical interests include wisdom teeth and dental extractions, dental implants, orthognathic surgery, and pathology. He is passionate about teaching and has spoken at numerous meetings on topics including all of the above. He remains active in local and national societies and is on staff at multiple hospitals. His focus on complex surgery stems from the advanced training during his residency being a referral base throughout the North Texas region from other surgeons in all disciplines. Using his training in 3D technologies, he can plan all of his surgical cases and design his own surgical splints and guides for complete control over the end surgical result. He enjoys giving back with mission work, including time spent with Smile Bangladesh doing cleft lip & palate repair.
Outside of work Dr. Lohr enjoys spending time with his wife, Hannah, and their daughter, Elsie. In their free time, they operate a small farm and enjoy spending time outdoors. They are both strong supporters of local KC businesses and farms. Dr. Lohr is a strong believer in treating every patient like family and looks forward to helping you obtain the care you deserve today.
