Facial Fillers
At Kansas City Facial & Oral Surgery, Drs. Lohr and Hollabaugh offer a variety of facial fillers. After a thorough consultation evaluation to understand your goals, we will discuss with you our recommendations regarding which fillers may best achieve your desires. As we age, our face loses volume due to fat atrophy and results in the ‘sagging’ appearance we know as an older appearance. Facial fillers restore that volume for a natural, youthful appearance. They are also excellent solutions for young patients who would like to add definition to particular areas of the face. We use a variety of facial fillers as they each accomplish different esthetic goals. Hyaluronic acid fillers have the advantages of both a moderately long effect, but can be reversible, if desired, whereas fillers like Bellafill can be semi-permanent. Drs. JUVEDERM®
Juvederm® is a facial filler product line that is the one of the latest dermal fillers introduced to the U.S. market by Allergan, the company which manufactures Botox®. It is a hyaluronic acid based filler similar to Restylane®. However, JUVÉDERM® injectable gel employs its unique manufacturing process to provide the highest concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any currently available hyaluronic acid dermal filler for long-lasting results. This advanced manufacturing process also creates a smooth consistency gel that flows consistently and easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel.
Recently approved by the FDA, Juvéderm® injectable gel is a “next-generation” dermal filler. The smooth consistency gel helps to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).
With Juvederm®, the results are immediate with minimal downtime. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results last up to 6 months or more. Juvederm® can be used virtually anywhere on the face, with most success in the lips, nasolabial folds (lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth), and the marionette lines (lines from the corners of the mouth downward to the jawline).

JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC
Juvederm® Ultra XC adds fullness and plumps lips, is good for nasolabial folds and providing up to one year of a more full appearance. An excellent option for clients looking to smoothen out nasolabial folds, add fullness to thin lips, or two revitalize lips that have thinned over time. Results look natural and freshen the overall appearance.
JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA XC
Juvederm® Volbella XC is another lip filling Juvederm® product that can increase lip fullness for up to a full year. Juvederm® Volbella is also designed to reduce the appearance of the smaller vertical lip lines, softening their overall appearance.
JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA XC
Juvederm® Voluma XC is designed to add volume to the face, caused by hallowing that occurs as we age and collagen levels are reduced. Cheeks become flatter, and skin may begin to sag over time. Juvederm® Voluma XC adds volume to the mid-facial region, contouring the cheek area and adding volume below the surface of the skin for a more youthful appearance. Juvederm® Voluma XC can also be placed in the temples for patients who have loss fullness in the temples causing them to take on an aged appearance.
JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE XC
Juvederm® Vollure XC is designed to correct facial wrinkles, folds, and parentheses lines with results lasting up to 18 months. Juvederm® Vollure XC adds volume to the lines surrounding the mouth and nose to produce elegant, subtle results.
RESTYLANE®
Restylane® is a safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler that restores volume and fullness. In our practice we use Restylane® in the tear trough region to add support to the lower eyelid and blend the transition from lower eyelid into the upper cheek. This helps restore a more rested and youthful appearance to the lower eyelid and upper cheek complex. Restylane® is made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. Restylane® requires no pre-testing and the effects generally last for about six months. Restylane® is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and the results are practically instantaneous.
RADIESSE®
Radiesse® is made of unique calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a natural gel that is injected into the skin through a simple, safe and minimally invasive procedure. On average, the results last over 1 year, saving you time and money, since the injections are less frequent.
Radiesse® works with your body, below the skin’s surface, to stimulate the production of collagen and encourage tissue regeneration. It does more than just temporarily fill-in facial lines and wrinkles; it rebuilds your skin’s foundation. In our practice we use Radiesse® for small alterations to the nose and to augment and increase lower jaw definition in a patient who would like to trial these changes as they are expected to last around 1 year. If patients like the results with Radiesse® then repeat Radiesse® injections can be performed or they can switch to a longer lasting filler like Bellafill® which is expected to last 5 years.
Bellafill®
This is a semi-permanent filler option contained of polymethyl methacrylate microspheres within a collagen gel. The microspheres create a scaffold that your body will form collagen around to enhance the longevity of the filler product. Your facial cosmetic surgeon will discuss options for bellafill use including use for cosmetic improvement to the nose, to add architecture or to change shadow lines to improve cosmesis of the nose. We also use bellafill for lower jaw angle definition improvement. The filler is placed along the lateral surface of the jaw to increase jaw definition. Given this is a semi permanent filler, an allergy test must be performed in the office prior to placement. Results can be seen for up to 5 years.
