BOTOX®, DYSPORT®, and XEOMIN®
Injectable cosmetic neurotoxin treatments are a revolutionary approach aimed to prevent the formation and reversing superficial and deep facial wrinkles. All products areonabotulinumtoxinA, sold by different companies. Neurotoxins injected for cosmetic use cause the muscles of facial expression to be temporarily partial or completely paralyzed. As we age the repetitive motion of facial muscles causes wrinkles and deep lines in the skin. This is similar to paper that is folded, once the fold develops it’s difficult or impossible to unfold the crease. Injectable neurotoxins are used for forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, and can be used as well for small lines around the lips and can be used on the neck to reduce banding. These are referred to as dynamic wrinkle lines and all are treatable with this procedure. Cosmetic denervation is the process of injecting into the tiny facial muscles that create the wrinkles. Injections are typically done without anesthesia as the needles are very small. We do offer a light nitrous oxide sedation for all cosmetic injectables if a patient has anxiety regarding the procedure. Results tend to set up in 3-5 days, maximum block is set up in 2 weeks and results last around 4 months.
POST-OPERATIVE INFORMATION
After the procedure patients may experience slight bruising around the area that quickly fades. Normal activities can be performed immediately. Possible side effects are temporary weakness of nearby muscles or in rare cases eyebrows or eyelids may droop temporarily as a result of decreased ability of muscle to elevate these structures. For new patients who have not had the procedure before their forehead may feel heavy for a few weeks, the body will respond and this is temporary. This is one of the most common cosmetic procedures for a reason, patients love the results. It is a great procedure to help rejuvenate your face, and prevent development or worsening of lines and wrinkles with minimal/no down time. Your facial surgeon will explain all risks, benefits and expected results at the time of your consultation and treatment.
