CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels are helpful for superficial wrinkles, light acne scarring and irregular pigmentation such as freckles and age spots. Pre-cancerous conditions such as keratoses (thick, rough, reddish growths) also respond well to this procedure by shedding the bad skin cells.

There are several types of chemical peels:

  • Light peels to remove superficial wrinkles
  • Medium peels to remove deeper wrinkles
  • Deep peels for more severe conditions

After thoroughly cleansing the skin, a small applicator is used to apply the chemical solution to the face.

The amount of improvement varies and depends upon the initial condition of the patient’s skin.  The face will appear irritated and red for 3 days, then the skin will began to shed from days 3-7.  The post peel skin can be seen at about one week following treatment. The new skin underneath is very sensitive to soaps and to the sun.  It is important to use mild soaps for facial cleansing and to use sunscreen when outside.  Chemical peels function similar to when a snake sheds its skin, the older damaged skin is shed and the new more youthful skin underneath is exposed.  In our practice we use APEELE®.  There are three strengths: Light, Medium and Forte.  Call to set up a consultation with your facial cosmetic surgeon about skin care, chemical peels or facial laser resurfacing to determine what regimen is best for you.

SKIN REJUVENATION

A skin rejuvenation program is often used in conjunction with either chemical peels or laser resurfacing to reduce the fine  lines and wrinkles of the face, lighten areas of hyperpigmentation and produce a healthier and softer texture to the skin. A skin care program can be accomplished separately or in conjunction with the other procedures like chemical peels or laser resurfacing.  Our skin care line is dedicated to providing you with the latest and most effective skin treatments available.

We invite you to inquire about skin care, chemical peels, laser skin resurfacing to help you achieve smoother, fresher, younger-looking skin.
