Face and Neck Liposuction
Facial and neck liposuction is a procedure offered to help sculpt the facial tissues to harmonize the overall facial appearance. There are areas of fat in the face and neck that remain stubborn even with diet and exercise. Liposuction of the facial and neck regions can be performed to contour the facial frame. Surgery can be done with tumescent anesthesia or deep sedation/general anesthesia depending on the amount of surgery needed. Usually small pinpoint incisions around ears and under the chin are used for liposuction cannula access. This is a minimally invasive technique which is used for most cases. Occasionally incisions need to be enlarged if increased access to fat deposits is indicated. Liposuction with laser assistance is sometimes indicated to help melt fat and tighten the overlying skin. This technique when indicated is called “Laser Liposuction”. Recovery is relatively straight forward. Numbness of the skin overlying the area is common and resolves with time. A head wrap is worn for the first few days to limit swelling. Bruising and tissue discoloration usually is mild and improves within 7-10 days. Although initial results can be seen within a few weeks, final results are seen in roughly 4 months after the tissue is allowed to heal.
